Compaction Effects

Compaction limits pore space, air and water
in the soil, reducing both root and plant growth
and crop yield. However good soil tilth:

  • Creates a more open soil structure for improved water absorption, infiltration and percolation.
  • Helps allow excess water to drain if it's too wet.
  • Opens up soil and increases its water-holding capacity.
